We got sunchokes from the farmers' market this weekend; the lovely folks at Veenstra's Vegetables had a recipe box too, so I grabbed a page that had a bunch of ideas for using them. After reading up a bit about them, it sounds like sunchokes are very easy to maintain and propagate, so I'll consider buying extra this week and planting a small bed of them.

The flavor of a sunchoke is earthy but crisp and refreshing. It really brightens the flavor of a rich comforting soup like a chowder.

We've been drinking this new pizza beer lately and really like it. It's infused with lots of common pizza flavors: garlic, oregano, tomato, etc. and of course tastes awesome with pizza and pasta. Actually, I've found that it tastes good with lots of foods. Give it a try if you see it in the store, it's a local microbrew too, produced for them by Sprecher.

I've fallen behind in following most of the webcomics that I used to follow.

However, I did discover another one that I really like: Simluated Comic Product. I saw a link somewhere specifically to the Dexterity roll comic and thought that was hilarious.

Has anyone else discovered a comic other than the usual ones out there? I'll have to dig up a link to my old post with recommendations (from last year?).

Horribly Hilly Hundreds

biking
I heard about this from one of our friends' neighbors when we were visiting Madison, WI: Horribly Hilly Hundreds bike ride. Something like 10,000+ ft. of climbing over the entire course. It sounds crazy, and I would need a geared bike by then to do it; but if I can convince my friend to try, then I'll go for it. I don't think there's any way I could handle the full 200k the first time though, so I'd be training for the metric century.

Doh!

Due to my eagerness to finish the job, I screwed up and started digging up an area where pt had already planted some bulbs. She freaked out, but didn't get as mad as I probably would have at her, had the roles been switched. Luckily, I only messed up a handful/few dollars worth of bulbs, and just need to hunt down the exact replacements.

Other than that the evening's bulb planting session was a success. We finally figured out the correct way to use the auger bit, but it saps the juice from the cordless drill rather quickly. We had to stop because the batteries couldn't recharge fast enough to keep up with us. Not much left to do though. If it rains tonight we'll just have to wait until the weekend to finish.
