Cam happy

The S50 is in my greedy little hands. Damn, I had to work for this thing! Not just in the saving, but in the physical act of waiting on hold for 25 minutes to verify they had it in stock, getting out to the Best Buy in Evanston (Purple line to Howard to Pace 215), waiting for the guy to finish with a high maintenance customer, and getting home.

Let me just say that the first part of that last part was the hardest. More on this later, but I must write this:

One must always remember that Howard is the boundary between Chicago and Evanston/Skokie. As a result, the numbering on the North side of Howard follows the scheme for Evanston properties while the numbering on the South side of Howard follows the scheme for Chicago. These numbering schemes are not the same. They differ by about 1100.

Oh, about the camera, I think I'm really going to like it. I don't think I'll regret the money spent and the size of the camera. Sure, it's not an ultracompact, but I really wanted the manual features. Thanks to some hints from pratfall, I had a vague idea of how to play around with some settings. Out of the box, without opening the manual, I was able to take shots that I never could with my previous (point-and-shoot) digicam. I'm excited because there's so much to learn--F this, ISO that, exposure, white balance, etc.

I've always been a sucker for customization. This series give you the ability to upload a custom theme. This consists of a startup screen and various sounds for the different operations. I loaded an "urban techno" theme and a chimpanzee theme. For the self-timer sound, the chimp sound goes wild for a few seconds. Imagine setting up the camera for that group holiday photo--everyone will surely crack a smile when the chimp freaks out.

Picture this...

I see jimmy and I see...
